54 GREY COUNTY PLOWING MATCH EDITION
AROUND GREY
MILK COMMITTEE
There always seems to be an issue in
the dairy industry, and free trade is cer-
tainly the main issue for the Grey
County Milk Committee this year, says
its president Bob Pringle.
"I can't visualize Ontario not having
a dairy industry, especially when we
have the numberone system in the world
that everybody wants," he adds.
Free trade may be threatening the
industry, Pringle says, but he believes
that the dairy industry will be stable for
a few years at least. Nevertheless, he's
not making any big plans to expand or
build a new barn.
Pringle also notes that milk produc-
tion and marketing must be geared to
meeting the changing needs of the con-
sumer. "We have to be conscious of the
consumer, and what he or she wants," he
says.
The Grey County Milk Committee
is made up of eight members with two
representatives from each of three zones
and two at large within the county.
Between five and seven meetings are
held each year in addition to the annual
meeting, which the 320 county milk
producers are encouraged to attend.
Pringle owns a 35 -cow dairy herd on
his farm southwest of Chatsworth. He is
also president of the Grey County Hol-
stein Club.O
