Lori Hamilton of Trenton, the reign- ing queen, will crown the new queen at the September 17 banquet in Meaford. The new queen will receive count- less donated gifts, including the keys to a new car for use during her one-year tenure. It is her responsibility to pro- mote the IPM. "I've been busy ever since I won the title and I'm still going strong," says Lori Hamilton. She has visited farm shows, county plowing matches, annual banquets, schools, Women's Institute meetings, and4-H and service organiza- tions. Hamilton holds a diploma in ag- riculture from Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology. The contestants this year will be judged in several categories, including plowing ability, appearance and deport- ment, speech -making, and an interview. Each of the 52 plowing associations in the province may sponsor a queen between 16 and 25 years of age. Two past Queens of the Furrow are Grey County natives: Yvonne Pallister McCutcheon was queen in 1981 and Linda Shouldice Waugh in 1972. Ruth Bender, chairman of the Queen of the Furrow Committee, notes that county merchants have generously do- nated gifts and prize money.0
