PROTECT TARIFF,
SAYS NEW GROUP
A new group of poultry and egg
producers has been formed to lobby for
tariff protection in their industry.
The Ontario Poultry Industry
Committee on Tariffs and Trade, repre-
senting the Ontario hatching egg,
chicken, egg, and turkey producers,
hatcheries, primary chicken and turkey
processors, and others, is asking that im-
port tariffs on all poultry and poultry
products be preserved in the Canada -
U.S. free trade negotiations, notes
committee chairman Zaven Kurdian.
In a six-page brief, the importance of
tariff protection is outlined. The brief
explains that it is not feasible to maintain
supply management and import con-
trols without tariff protection.0
