NEW PROGRAM
AIDS SAFETY
Farmers in Ontario will be receiv-
ing application forms for the new On-
tario Farm Management, Safety, and
Repairs Program in mid-August.
The $50 million program will pay
individual farmers up to $2,500 for
improvements in safety, farm machin-
ery, on-farm storage, and farm manage-
ment analysis.
Retroactive to June 1, 1987, the
program applies to producers in Ontario
with an annual : alue of production of
$12,000. Producers with Tess than this
production value may qualify under
special circumstances (if non-farm in-
come is not more than farm income).
There are three parts:
• a $300 grant for participation in the
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and
Food's Farm Management Analysis
Project,
• a grant of 80 per cent of specific on-
farm safety projects such as roll bars and
safety cabs for tractors, warning sys-
tems, personal protective equipment,
and child -resistant fencing of farm
ponds and manure storage areas (in-
voiced labour is eligible).
• a grant of 50 per cent of the cost of
replacement parts for field machinery
parts and for farm shop equipment,
• a grant of 40 per cent of the cost of on-
farm feed and storage facilities.
Farmers, notes agriculture minister
Jack Riddell, can get their $2,500 on any
combination of projects. "They may
also apply on as many occasions as it
takes to reach the $2,500 maximum."
To be elibible, items must be pur-
chased between June 1, 1987 and May
31, 1988. Applications will be accepted
no later than July 15, 1988. All related
invoices must be marked "paid," have
the vendor's signature or initials, and be
kept by the applicant until July 15,
