Deputy FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: (519) 228-6691 • • • 32 THE RURAL VOICE NEWS NEW PROGRAM AIDS SAFETY Farmers in Ontario will be receiv- ing application forms for the new On- tario Farm Management, Safety, and Repairs Program in mid-August. The $50 million program will pay individual farmers up to $2,500 for improvements in safety, farm machin- ery, on-farm storage, and farm manage- ment analysis. Retroactive to June 1, 1987, the program applies to producers in Ontario with an annual : alue of production of $12,000. Producers with Tess than this production value may qualify under special circumstances (if non-farm in- come is not more than farm income). There are three parts: • a $300 grant for participation in the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food's Farm Management Analysis Project, • a grant of 80 per cent of specific on- farm safety projects such as roll bars and safety cabs for tractors, warning sys- tems, personal protective equipment, and child -resistant fencing of farm ponds and manure storage areas (in- voiced labour is eligible). • a grant of 50 per cent of the cost of replacement parts for field machinery parts and for farm shop equipment, • a grant of 40 per cent of the cost of on- farm feed and storage facilities. Farmers, notes agriculture minister Jack Riddell, can get their $2,500 on any combination of projects. "They may also apply on as many occasions as it takes to reach the $2,500 maximum." To be elibible, items must be pur- chased between June 1, 1987 and May 31, 1988. Applications will be accepted no later than July 15, 1988. All related invoices must be marked "paid," have the vendor's signature or initials, and be kept by the applicant until July 15, 1989.0 FIRM WINS CONTRACT Stacey Brothers of Mitchell, a divi- sion of Ault Food Limited, has been awarded a $273,000 contract to supply honey and peanut butter tubes to the Department of National Defence. These tubes will be included in ration packs for Canadian soldiers.0
