that they don't see their family,
friends, and relatives fading out of their
lives.
We must educate our society that
we need land to grow food, to eat, to
survive. Whether you believe it or
not, Canadians are among the luckiest
in the world when it comes to food at
reasonable prices available in almost
endless quantities. We do not have to
line up for hours to buy food as they
do in Russia and Poland and even East
Germany. We are not starving as so
many are in Africa and some other
Third World countries. We have food
that is fresh and succulent and in
abundance. We have it because far-
mers here are the best and most effi-
cient in the world.
Society can no longer maintain a
cheap food policy at the expense of our
farmers. How can we get things back
to normal as long as we have more
people riding the wagon than pulling
it? Bionic men and women are closer
to becoming a reality. Modem medi-
cine can already replace many parts of
the body, but it can't replace the farmer
in your community. It is your
responsibility and mine to become
involved so we will have a better land.
Canada is only a baby on the
general scale of things. Our history is
short in years, rich in development,
and our growth has been crammed with
achievements. Someone before us
laboured hard so that this country
would be a better home for those who
followed. Our country is what we as
individuals make it. Therefore let us
be optimistic. We can gain strength,
courage, and understanding from the
past to help us meet the challenge of
today. Coming together is a begin-
ning, staying together is progress,
working together is success for our
farming industry.°
