R.O.P. STATION
REPORTS TOP BOARS
Dennis Foerster, a swine breeder in
the Neustadt area, consigned the high-
est indexing boar overall and the top
Landrace boar in the April fill of boars
tested at the New Dundee R.O.P.
station. His Landrace boar achieved an
index of 146, B.F. 11.2, ADG. 1.08,
F.C. 2.33, days 140.
A York breeder from Palmerston,
Ted Torreiter, consigned the highest
indexing Yorkshire, with an index of
132, B.F. 11.3, ADG. 1.00, F.D.
2.14, days 138.
The top indexing Hampshire was
consigned by Ralph Henderson of
Atwood at 123, B.F. 12.5, ADG.
1.00, F.C. 2.42, days 146.
The overall average of the 110
boars completing the test was B.F.
12.8, ADG. 0.88, F.C. 2.36, days
148. Of the top 10 boars, 7 had 1 kg
or better ADG.
These herds are monitored by vet-
erinarians from the Ontario Animal
Industry Branch and must be approved
before boars can be submitted for
testing. There must be no evidence of
disease or other conditions that would
limit performance or cause a health
problem in another herd.0
