DUCKS UNLIMITED
FORMED IN WINGHAM
People from Wingham and surroun-
ding areas interested in participating in
a practical conservation program will
be given an opportunity to do so later
this year, says Blake Evans, chairman
of the newly organized Wingham com-
mittee of Ducks Unlimited Canada.
Ducks Unlimited is an internation-
al waterfowl conservation organiza-
tion. Since 1938, it has worked on
more than 2,100 wetlands projects
throughout Canada, reserving more
than three million habitat acres and
creating more than 13,000 miles of
crucial nesting shoreline for waterfowl.
"Our committee will soon be call-
ing on conservation -minded individuals
within the community to help support
our fund-raising banquet scheduled for
October 2," says Evans.

organization, call 519-357-1920.0
HCPPA DISCUSSES
EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Promotion Committee of the
Huron County Pork Producers Asso-
ciation notes that there is a need to
educate more butchers about the cut of
the pork steak, which can be taken
from the shoulder, loin, and hind legs.
In other business at the Huron pro-
ducers' meeting last month, Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food staff
presented a tentative plan for producer
education in the county in 1987-88.
The plan, for which there is a possible
$5,000 available over five years, in-
cludes a proposal for three manage-
ment clubs plus a fourth for farmers in
the beginning farmers' program.
Other activities could include com-
puter courses for farmers computeriz-
ing their record-keeping, general meet-
ings presented by qualified personnel
to discuss specific problems (such as
mycotoxins), links with "sister" coun-
ty associations in the U.S. to promote
the exchange of information, and a
retail promotion demonstration for
those involved in processing red meat.
