LOWRY DEVELOPS
FEED BLENDER/MIXER
Lynn Lowry at Lowry Farm
Systems in Amberley, Ontario has
developed a livestock feed blender/
mixer to add to the line of brand-name
livestock equipment that he has been
retailing.
The unit is being farm -tested by
Neil McKenzie in neighbouring
Ashfield Township. McKenzie reports
that the mixer does an excellent job.
Lowry says that tests show the mixer
provides an accurate blend of feed
ingredients thoughout the batch.
The 1,000 -pound model is powered
by a 3 hp electric motor. A number
80 roller link chain drives the main
sprocket, and a number 60 chain drives
the 2 -inch shaft to which the blending
paddles are attached. The mixer is
fitted with Butler electronic scales to
simplify the accurate weighing of feed
ingredients.
A 2,000 -pound capacity model will
soon be available. Options planned
for the future are a more economical
beam scale and a hammermill designed
as a companion to the mixers. Dealer
enquiries are welcome, Lynn Lowry

WATER BOWL NEEDS
NO ELECTRICITY
A watering bowl that keeps water
cooler in the summer and ice -free in
winter — without electricity — is
now being sold by Superior Precast, a
supplier of home and farm concrete
products based in Shallow Lake.
The Superbowl, made of poly-
ethylene plastic five inches thick, has
an R-35 insulating value. A floating
disc keeps it sealed when livestock are
not drinking, preventing bacterial
growth caused by sunlight.
Other benefits are that the Super-
bowl costs nothing to operate and
eliminates the hazards of stray voltage.
It does require that a ground shaft be
installed down to the water line.
Two models are available. The 61
x 91.5 cm (24 x 36 inch) single bowl
retails for $450 and the 76 x 132 cm
(30 x 52 inch) model for $650. A
single unit can water up to 100 head of
cattle, sheep, horses, or hogs.0
