CUSTOM RATES
VARY WITH SITUATION
Custom rates for farm work vary,
and in some cases quite widely. Rates
depend on soil type, size and shape of
field, obstructions, time of plowing
(spring or fall), and the kinds of crop
residues handled.
When custom work involves plant-
ing, spraying, and fertilizer applica-
tions, rates differ according to mater-
ials used, quantities of water required,
and extra handling involved.
Combining rates vary with crop
lodging, excessive weed growth, and
other poor operating conditions. And
hourly rates for silo filling depend on
the number of men, number and size
of tractors, size and type of harvester,
number and type of forage wagons, and
blower supplied.
The following figures represent
rates for custom work charged in
Western Ontario in 1986 according to
a survey by the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food.
