The minutes of the last meeting were passed on a motion by Helen Johnston and seconded by Jim McIntosh. Carried. Convention Reports: Murray Crawford, Brenda McIntosh, Doug Garniss, Don Dow, and Paul Klopp reported on some convention high- lights Speaker: Guest Murray Elston was introduced by Doug Garniss. Murray told the audience about his attendance and involvement at the GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) talks in Uruguay. GATT covers trade and commerce in all commodities the world over. About 5,000 represent- atives attended the conference from countries all over the world, with Japan having the most representives (150). Murray was thanked by John Van Beers of the Program Committee. John Van Beers requested that far- mers still send in the Crop Insurance form in The Rural Voice (November and December). A committee has been set up to deal with the replies. Don Pullen and Doug Jamieson (Centralia College) were present to acquire help from members in the form of suggestions for winter courses wanted or needed in the agricultural industry. Don also went over the new "OFFIRR plus" program for crop damage (both insured and uninsured). More information on the program is available at the OMAF office. Norm Alexander told the members that the conservation authorities need more money to operate properly. At present, they do not have enough mon- ey to do any more than study conser- vation. He is also concerned about the weed seed in bird feed. He is going to gather information and forward it to another meeting of the Huron federation.0 PUBLIC SPEAKING COURSE MAY BE OFFERED Practice in speech preparation and delivery, including an increased understanding of voice, gestures, and microphone use. This course can be made available depending on funding and pre -registration.
