Plenty of resolutions at annual meeting
Following are the THEREFORE BE
IT RESOLVED portions of the
resolutions passed at the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture Annual/
Regional meeting on October 7, 1999.
These resolutions will be sent to OFA
Convention to be discussed and voted
on November 22-23, 1999.
1) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
the Ontario Federation of Agriculture
work with MOE and the livestock
commodity boards to determine
appropriate escalating fines for repeat
offenders who mismanage livestock
manure.
2) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
OFA lobby both the Federal and
Provincial levels of Government to
include negative margins in the 1998
and 1999 calculations for AIDA and
OWFRP, and further BE IT
RESOLVED that OFA lobby Mr the
opportunity for all farmers to be
allowed to reapply to these programs
when negative margins are included in
the calculations.
3) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
the OFA must become more
accountable and from here on in carry
out their responsibilities of effectively
lobbying the Provincial and Federal
Governments for the moral and
financial support to guarantee the
survival of the independent family
farm.
4) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
the OFA accept this and from now on
carry out all of their lobbying efforts
with this in mind, and work for these
independent family farms to ensure
their financial viability and to uphold
their prominence in society.
5) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
OFA lobby MOE and MNR to change
the Aggregate Resources Act and the
Environmental Protection Act to reflect
the need for both Ministries to approve
the storing and processing of recyclable
materials on properties zoned for
aggregate extraction.
6) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
OFA report and discuss fully the
demise of Farm & Country and explain
how its communication function will be
replaced.
7) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that

OFA not support this idea and that
OFA reaffirms the belief that we live in
a society that believes in one person,
one vote.
8) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
the OFA lobby the Federal and
Provincial governments to make it
known that the U.S. government is
receiving a return from its investment
in agriculture support programs so that
a competitive Canadian Agriculture
Support Policy can be developed.
The above BE IT RESOLVEDS
were all carried at the Annual County
level.
This final BE IT RESOLVED was
tabled at the County Annual meeting.
9) Therefore BE IT RESOLVED that
OFA call for no further approvals on
releases of genetically modified
organisms until there is the capability
for strict segregation of GMO crops
from non-GMO crops and clear
labelling of GMO crops and food at the
consumer level and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that
OFA encourage federation members to
work with local municipalities to
designate GMO free zones where
farmers seeking to grow crops for high
value markets in Europe, Japan or the
organic sector can grow crops free of
contamination by GMO crops.

OATI courses on-line
OATI is proud to announce that we will be offering two online courses this season:
Machinery Replacement Strategies: Capital Budgeting and Exceptional Customer Service.
The fall courses start on November 15, 1999 and run for four weeks. If you are
interested and this date is not good for you we will offer the courses again during the
winter months — send an email to find out more about future dates or check the OATI web-
site in a few weeks.
An online course allows you to work at your own pace and make your own schedule yet
interact and network with your facilitator and other participants.
