Caught between the long arms of the law Do you read The Rural Voice when it drops on your kitchen table? You do, well that's good. Do you read the County newsletter pages? You do. well that's even better. So you will remember the article which I submitted some time ago talking about farm safety when travelling on the road with farm equipment and to be courteous to other road users and move over onto the shoulder occasionally to permit traffic to pass. Well maybe and just maybe I should rethink those comments. While travelling North on Highway 10 with a farm tractor and two gravity wagons recently, I did just that to permit two tractor trailers and a car to pass. I was pulled over shortly after by a Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) officer who was very disturbed by my "weaving on and off the road" as he said and that I was kicking up dust. He told me I should stay on the travelled portion of the road and that the traffic could stay behind me or pass when it was safe to do so. Shortly thereafter I was motioned by an OPP officer to pull over to the shoulder as it appears two cars were behind me and unable to pass. It would appear that I was firmly stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place and "that I could not get on for getting off'. Maybe the two arms of the law should get their act together and let us know just where it is they would like us to drive. Yes, I was somewhat disturbed and perplexed. The Grey. County Federation of Agriculture held its 59th Annual Meeting and Banquet and OFA Regional Meeting on Friday, October 15 and we have a new slate of officers. My [Hanks goes to Bob Rodger for his excellent leadership and two dedicated years as GCFA President. Congratulations to Karl Chittka, Proton Township, who was acclaimed as President. Wayne 44 THE RURAL VOICE McCausland, Euphrasia Township, was acclaimed as Second Vice - President, and I am now your First Vice -President. Karl Chittka and I remain as OFA Regional Directors, but alas Pearl Bumstead feels she has more than enough to do and that it is time for someone else to take over as Regional Director for Grey North. I will miss Pearl on our trips to the OFA Board Meetings in Toronto. Pearl has worked diligently for Grey County. She and I have held opposing opinions on some issues over the years, but then that is how we come. to have a democratic solution. We will miss you Pearl and thank you for your contributions.
