Life is like the seasons and my
Dad reached the Autumn of his life
this month. Like the leaves that
become beautiful and return to the
earth to make room for new life, so
did my Dad. With every birthday,
with every Christmas and all the
holidays in between we will miss him
so very much.
"I am only one, but still I am one:
I cannot do everything, but still I can
do something, and because 1 cannot
do everything I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do." –
Edward E. Hale.
The September RRFA meeting
was held at OMAFRA on Tuesday
evening. Attending were Linda
Armstrong, Rudy Sinpinghe, Betty
Salchert, James Gibson, Dianne
Vandenbrand, Kristine Carpenter,
KimJo Calder, Wade Desserre.
The Emo Fair has come and gone
for another year without rainfall. The
Farm Progress Building was full of
excellent exhibits. Amos and Heidi
Brielmann received the first place
ribbon of recognition for their very
professional display. The potato
being zapped by the electric fence
display was a hit. It seems that Kim
Cornell thought that one up.
The Farm Beautification entries
were judged and the winner for the
most improved farmstead went to
Ted and Deb Zimmerman; they also
received a first for Farm -Gateway
entrance. Previous winners for best
maintained farm gateway went to
Ralph and Jacquelyn Hunsperger.
Most attractive rural home award
went to Dan and Peggy Dorie of
Stratton. Most attractive
rural/residential home award went to
Dan and Kathleen Loney of Emo.
Next year, the Rainy River
Agricultural Society and the Rainy
River Federation of Agriculture will
allow nomination of a neighbour or
someone you think deserves it. In the
past one entered their own farm or
home in the contest.

It's an event that captures community

the bus. It costs $150 to start with.

chosen for travelling and touring.
Call OMAFRA for more information.
Each commodity group has reps on
the planning committee.
OMAFRA has a new date for
moving. It could happen around
October 4. Renovating is still taking
place at the police station at Emo, so
it has caused some delay.
Rainy River District Cattlemen
will be holding their second sale on
Saturday, October 2. This is the last
sale of the year for the RRCA. Call
manager Russ Richards JR at 807-
487-2472 for more information.
The Ontario Veterinary Science
Practice Act of 1931 broadened the
scope of vet medicine by extending it
to include domestic animals as well
as livestock. The Ontario Veterinary
Association, now the College of
Veterinarians of Ontario, became a
corporate body empowered to govern
its members and issue licenses to
practice. OVC-Ontario Veterinary
College is the oldest veterinary
school in Canada and the U.S. today.
The first class of three young men
received their.diplomas in 1866. In
1999, graduates of OVC were 99
students; 67 of these are women. In
September of 1874, 27 pioneering
veterinarians met in Toronto to form
the Ontario Veterinary Association.
Today in Ontario, there are 3,061
licensed veterinarians.
On the weekend of October 15-16,
our local 4-H Association will be
sponsoring a 10 -12 -year-old
Conference at Red Dog Inn in Fort
Frances. There will be games, crafts,
swimming and leadership activities.
Call Carol Angus at 807-487-2158 to
sign up.
A reminder to everyone about the
annual RRFA meeting at the Emo
Legion Hall.
"You must give time to your
fellow men — even it's a little thing,
do something for others — something
for which you get no pay, but the
privilege of doing it."0 — Albert
