WHEREAS livestock farms are under increasing scrutiny of their manure handling and utilization practices, and WHEREAS the majority of livestock farmers are responsible stewards of livestock manure as a nutrient source, and WHEREAS repeat offenders who mismanage livestock manure give livestock producers a bad name THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that OFA lobby the government of Ontario to increase funding to MOE so it can adequately investigate those who repeatedly mismanage livestock manure and FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that OFA work with MOE and the livestock commodity boards to determine appropriate escalating fines for repeat offenders who mismanage livestock manure.0 Important Conference coming up ADVANCE NOTICE: Nutrient Management Planning Conference Sheraton Fallsview Hotel, Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada March 24-26, 1999 If you can attend only one conference on nutrient management this winter, we urge you to consider this one. The conference planning committee is inviting experts from Ontario and New York State to share research, experience and opinion on critical issues surrounding the environmental, economic and social concerns related to the production, storage and use of agricultural nutrients — namely livestock manure, municipal planners and officials, environmental agency personnel, agricultural extensionists, researchers, farm organization representatives and landowners would benefit in attending. Former Field Rep dies suddenly Sincere condolences and warmest thoughts go out to Eleanor Crawford and family on the sudden passing of William Moore (Bill) Crawford on Friday, November 6, 1998. Bill was the Huron Federation of Agriculture Field Rep. from 1972 - 1982.
