The information explosion in perspective Do you feel that the age of information and technology is moving too fast? Here are some interesting points. There has been more information produced in the last 30 years than during the previous 5,000. A weekday edition of The New York Tunes contains more information than the average person was likely to come across in a lifetime during 17th century England. The information supply available to us doubles every five years. Richard Saul Wurrnan Information Anxiety Let's say you're going to a party, so you pull out some pocket change and buy a little greeting card that plays "Happy Birthday" when it's opened. After the party, someone casually tosses the card into the trash, throwing away more computer power than existed in the entire world before Ellice History Book nearing completion The Ellice History book is now in the final stages and this project would not have been possible without the tremendous effort of so many volunteers in the community. Some residents and friends of Ellice have asked if they could make a financial contribution to the project. We welcome all donations. Contributions over $10 will be issued a tax receipt. Contributors of $100 or more will be acknowledged in the book as patrons. Patrons who contribute $300 will be given a book. Your gift of $100 may be designated in honour or in memory of an individual and this too will be acknowledged in the book. The deadline to become a patron is January 20, 1999. Thanks again for your support. Donations can be sent to Rhonda Ehgoetz, RR 1, Sebringville, ON NOK 1X0. 519-393- 6888.0 Submitted by Ellice History Book Committee 4-H awards given out Each the Perth County Federation of Agriculture presents 4-H jackets to the top member in the competitive clubs in each area of the County. Randal Tobias, former Vice Chairman of AT&T, offers this comparison to explain the astounding rate of advancement in computerization: "If we had similar progress in automotive technology, today you could buy a Lexus for about $2. It would travel at the speed of sound and go about 600 miles on a thimble of gas."0 PERTH COUNTY FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE DECEMBER DIRECTORS' MEETING Thursday, December 17, 1998 Downie Mutual Insurance Office Sebringville 8:00 p.m. ALL MEMBERS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND Perth County Federation of Agriculture Officers President - Andy DeVries - 356-2133 Vice President - Allen Hughes - 291-4449 Vice President - Burnell Kipfer - 271-3399 REGIONAL DIRECTORS Perth South - Scott Graham - 284-1300 Perth Central - Ivan Stueck - 656-2379 Perth North - Paul Verkley - 356-9022
