The Rural Voice, 1998-12, Page 25medicine, she says. "When you have
Parkinson's you have to keep
pushing yourself."
Shapton has always been busy in
the community. She's past president
of the London Area Women's
Institute and of the Homecraft
Division of the Ontario Association
of Agricultural Societies.
She's also chair of the quilt
committee of the Lifestyles section of
the 1999 International Plowing
Match at nearby Dashwood (see
accompanying story).
She credits involvement in rural
groups from Junior Farmers (where
she and Bruce met) to Women's
Institute for giving her the leadership
skills to do so much of what she has
done.
She and Bruce have farmed 200
acres on two farms near Exeter for 42
years (they were married 46 years
ago). They had a cattle feedlot for
many years but now cash crop.
They're in the midst of turning the
operation over to their son Wayne.
Bruce and Delores' whole family
will be enjoying her pudding as part
of their own celebration this
Christmas. The pudding is generally
kept warm all day long and whenever
someone wants a piece they just take
some and put the sauce over it. Even
the young children have come to
enjoy the rich pudding, she says.
And so in the Shapton family, the
pudding tradition is being passed on
to yet another generation. And thanks
to Delores, other families get to top
of their Christmas in a traditional
way as well.0
