The Show consistently attracts some 40 young exhibitors, Bancroft says. One thing that Bancroft says is different with the junior barrow show since it started, is that the animals are no longer auctioned. There is, however, extra prize money. While visitors to this 25th Congress will enjoy most of the same sights and sounds as in the past, there promises to be some new excitement generated by this anniversary celebration. "This year is certainly going to be more festive than other years. There is entertainment. It will be a more cake -and -thank -you atmosphere, " says Smelski. Highlights include a carcass judging challenge to test evaluating skills. Participants can compete as individuals or by teams. The anniversary luncheon will be held each day from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and there is a volunteer appreciation banquet on Saturday, June 27 at 5:30 p.m. This will be followed by the Video Dance Party. The Friday night concert will feature Farmer's Daughter. More information on the Ontario Pork Congress 25th anniversary celebration can be obtained on its home page at www.porkcongress.on.ca, by e - mailing to opc@orc.ca or by calling Jean Smelski at 519-625-8811. An archival account is being created to allow long-time Congress members and guests to enjoy a look back. But Smelski is quick to note that the Congress is equally ready to keep looking ahead. "The theme is 'A Glimpse of Yesterday and a Vision of Tomorrow'. This celebration is not about dwelling on the past, but enjoying it for today," says Smelski. That enjoyment is definitely one of the things that has never changed over the 25 years, as pork producers continue to meet, learn and socialize. "The Ontario Pork Congress provides a focus for this industry, that as a whole pulls all facets together. It has been, and still is, an excellent promotional tool, social event and a business opportunity," says Bancroft.0
