The new store, currently under construction bchind the existing store on 10th St. (Hwy. 4 east), will be five times the size of the older building. In addition, the new store will have a permanent 2,228 -square -foot greenhouse and a drive-through bay at the side of the store for customer pick-up of bagged feed, salt and other bulk items. "We outgrew our existing Co-op store and want to offer people of this area much more in terms of product and service," said Terry Walker, Hanover location manager. The store, which will be under Growmark's FS banner, will offer farmers hardware, seed, fertilizer, livestock feed and petroleum while it offers urban customers a greater selection of work -wear, pet food and supplies and lawn and garden products. The gas bar is also being upgraded and will operate as an FS outlet. Once the new store is opened, the old store will be torn down to provide more parking for customers.° Agritourism seminar scheduled for Clinton Those who want to maximize results from farm gate sales, food product development and agritours can learn more at an agritourism seminar Saturday, March 28 at the OMAFRA office in Clinton. The intensive program includes a full morning presentation by Mary Lynn MacDonald for OATI, on "Opening your gates to agri- tourism", designed to assist people interested in participating in this growing tourism trend. The afternoon sessions include topics for farm gate sales operators and food processors such as "Developing value-added products", sponsored by Women and Rural Economic Development; "Opening your eyes to opportunities" by Shirley Hazlitt and "Promotion. Promotion, Promotion" with Wanda Love of Promoworks Marketing. This will be followed by a panel of food industry experts discussing their requirements when purchasing fresh food and food products locally. Included will be Richard Fitoussi of the Little Inn, Bayfield, Peg Reid of the Barberry Cafe, Barb Storey and Ken Cowan of Cowan's General Store. There will also be a presentation on the new Canadapt-funded project "Explore Ontario's West Coast" by project manager Cass Bayley. The marketing initiative is developing the Huron Harvest Trail to be launched this year. Cost for the seminar is $60 for the whole day or $35 for either the morning or afternoon sessions. Reservations should be made to The Bayley Group in Hensall at 263-5050 or faxed to 263-2936.0 Owen Sound Fair looking for quilts Owen Sound Fair has announced it's seeking entries for the first annual "Fruits of our Labour" Quilting Competition/Show to be held in conjunction with the fair at Victoria Park, Owen Sound from September 10.13. The new show will showcase quilts from across the province and perhaps even beyond. As well as the competition quilts on display, there will be an historical display of quilts. Quality artisans from Bruce and Grey Counties will also be offering their work for sale. For the convenience of show visitors there will be a gourmet cafe area, offering flavoured coffees and teas and cold drinks along with a variety of salads, sandwiches and homemade cheesecakes.
