Safety conscious farmers recommend the
following sale practices that apply to transport of
farm machinery on public roads:
• D o a pre -trip inspection o1 all your equipment.
• Display the SMV sign in the centre of the back of
the rear -most vehicle, between 2 metres and 0.5
metres above the roadway with the point at the top
• Use recommended lighting for slow-moving
vehicles.
• Use red and white reflective tapes on the roar and
sides of trucks and trailers to reduce night time
collisions.
• Use turn signal lights when turning.
• Lock your tractors individual wheel brakes together
for road travel.
• Use rear view mirrors to improve vision.
• Connect each farm wagon or implement to the
towing vehicle with two separate means of
attachment.
• Hitch pull -type equpment only to the drawbar or the
three-point hitch drawbar attachment set at the
recommended height. Use safety hitch pins to
prevent any drawbar -connected bad coming
unattached from the tractor.
• Maintain a safe travel speed.
• Heed to all traffic signs.
• Don't allow riders on tractors or towed equipment.
• Watch out for overhead obstructions.
