The Rural Voice is provided to all farmers
in Huron County by the HCFA.
Huron Environmental Committee involved in projects
The Huron County Environmental
Committee is working on several
projects this year.
The Environmental Farm Plan
should be important to all farmers to
evaluate whether our farm practices are
environmentally friendly and if we find
something we can improve on, there is
a $1,500 bonus in it for doing the plan.
To promote participation HCFA
Environment Committee has booked
two EFP workshop days to be
hopefully filled with HCFA members.
Collecting used engine oil is another
project we are looking into. A pilot
project has been held last year in Perth
and Middlesex counties which both
were very successful. More details will
follow later.
HCFA has taken a leading role in
the formation of the Huron
Environmental Farm Coalition. This
group will try to address some of the
issues that were raised this summer
along Lake Huron shoreline regarding
water pollution. The members are
HCFF, Huron Soil & Crop, HCFA,
HCPP, HCWP, Huron Soybean
Profile of a Regional Director
Evert Ridder
At the last HCFA Annual Meeting I
was elected to represent Huron
Northwest consisting of Ashfield,
Colborne, East & West Wawanosh and
Goderich Townships, replacing Neil
Vincent.
My wife Margie and I live on lot 21,
Conc. 9 of Goderich Township where
we have 10 acres of apple orchard.
Three of our sons farm in Goderich
Township, one in Stanley and one
daughter in Tuckersmith while our
youngest daughter lives and works in
Stratford.
The job of a Regional Director is to
represent his region at the OFA Board
level.
In order to do that effectively we will
have to know your views on the issues
we are faced with. To make the
Directors aware of your views, you can
attend the regular monthly HCFA board
meetings, held every last Monday of the
month at the Vanastra office and make
them known there, or you can contact

your regional director at the telephone
numbers listed below.
Another way is to invite your
neighbours and your regional director to
a "kitchen" meeting in your area and
review your issues together to see if a
solution were to be found. Only by
communicating and identifying issues
can we resolve them.
• We look forward to working on your
behalf for the betterment of farming in
Huron County.
