The Rural Voice, 1998-02, Page 23reflect their interest in preserving
aspects of rural heritage that are
being lost in the fast -paced, rapidly -
changing world of today. Wilma is a
proficient and creative quilter and
knitter, and her beautiful, useful
handiworks are a reminder of the
days past when folks were more
resourceful in making clothing,
bedding and gifts. In his spare time
Arnie is restoring old tractors and has
about a dozen Oliver 99 and W6's in
Tike -new condition proudly parked in
the drive shed next to the other
machinery. But these souvenirs of the
past are not gathering dust, for they
can be seen drawing wagons down
the road or on display at the local
fair.
One of the greatest
contributions that a farming
couple can make to the
agricultural heritage of their
community is to make it possible for
the next generation to carry on the
farming operation. Arnie and Wilma
have encouraged and supported their
son's interest in the farm since he
was old enough to take an active role,
and have made it possible for Randy
and his wife Jennifer to assume much
of the responsibility for the farm. By
combining traditional farming
practises the Woodhouses learned
from their parents with their own
experience, plus the new ideas that
Randy and Jennifer brought to the
farm from their college background,
Arnie and Wilma have ensured that
their dairy operation will continue to
thrive for at least another generation.
Friends, neighbours and family,
including many of their
grandchildren, gathered Sunday,
December 14 ,at the Federation's
Annual Dinner in Rocklyn for the
presentation of the Agricultural
Heritage Award. Presenting the
engraved plaque, the Mayor of
Euphrasia Township, Don
McCausland congratulated the
Woodhouses on receiving the award
and noted that their achievements are
an asset to the Township. In
accepting the award the Woodhouses
thanked the Federation, and stressed
they were accepting the Award on
behalf of the entire family, because
without their support they would not
have been able to accomplish so
