OMAFRA Nutrient Management Course With the increased interest in appropriate manure utilization, OMAFRA is providing a course on the latest version of the nutrient management computer program, NMAN97. The course is geared towards consultants, farmers, planners and others interested in manure nutrient management. The objective of the course is to show participants how to develop a nutrient management plan for utilizing manure on a livestock farm. The course will focus on how to operate the computer program with particular emphasis on acquiring information required for the program and interpreting information provided by the program. The two-day course is scheduled for December 11 and 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The cost of the course is $100 which includes two clays of instruction, lunches and ANNUAL MEETING Thursday, October 30, 1997 Mitchell Community Centre, Mitchell Guest Speaker: The Honourable Lyle Vanclief; Minister of Agriculture Social Time: 6:30 p.m. Meal: 7:00 p.m. with guest speaker and meeting to follow. Delegates to OFA convention and County Directors will be chosen at this meeting. Tickets cost $12.50 and are available from directors, or call 229-6430. Cheques are to be made payable to the University of Guelph. The instructors are Don Hilborn, OMAFRA, Waste Management Specialist, in Woodstock and Peter Johnson, OMAFRA, Soil and Crop Advisor, in Komoka. All attendees are required to have workable knowledge of crop and nutrient management and be familiar with computers. Those attending the course are required to bring a portable computer equipped with Windows 95, a mouse and the ability to load high density 3 1/2 inch disks. If you do not have access to a suitably equipped portable computer, it is suggested that you wait for the course being offered in early 1998 where computers will be available. For those interested in testing their knowledge acquired during the course, an optional take home exam is provided.
