The Rural Voice, 1997-10, Page 56GREY County Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER 44610th St., Hanover, Ontario N4N 1 P9 519-364-3050 ' The Rural Voice is provided to all Grey County Farmers by the GCFA. Well, after a summer like we had this year, G.P.S. took on a whole new meaning. Instead of Global Positioning System, the initials stood for Got to Precipitate Soon. One fine neighbour thought there seemed to be a lot of people on farm assistance these days by the number of gate signs he was seeing. I had to inform him that OFA stand for Ontario Federation of Agriculture. However, the Federation does assist farmers when problems arise or tries to help keep issues from becoming a problem. OFA Regional Meetings and election of officers are now in full gear. By letting your name stand for office in your local or regional federation, you could be part of a guiding team of farmers helping farmers. Donna Spitzig and Gertie Blake are excellent office and field staff in Grey County, and can make your task of receiving information to do your elected position more efficient. Courses put on throughout the winter months give you a better understanding of the workings of the OFA and an insight into the complex handling of issues that face farmers all across Ontario. The $140 plus GST (don't forget your rebate for GST) gives you a good start at being a member, but HOLLAND TOWNSHIP FEDERATION ANNUAL MEETING Saturday, November 15, 1997 Massie Community Centre 6:00 p.m. Pot Luck Supper Ed Neelands will be showing slides of his trip to Northern Ireland. 52 THE RURAL VOICE Getting your money's worth there is so much more to the organization than that one payment a year. By attending meetings you will gain information that you can use at home or to help a neighbour. A church is just a building without the people and the OFA cannot function without farmers giving of their valuable time to let their names stand for office or delegate for OFA Convention. Attend a monthly Grey County Federation of Agriculture board meeting (fourth Thursday) and find out what is going on with local GREY COUNTY FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE DIRECTORS' MEETING Thursday, November 20, 1997 8:00 p.m. OMAFRA Boardroom, Markdale Members are welcome to attend NOTE: There will be NO October Director's Meeting because of Annual Meeting and regional issues, and if you have an issue bring it along. Just because we have a great office and field staff does not mean that they are mind readers. You might find that you are not the only farmer with a particular concern.
