Marketing Committee Chair. "The
objective of the forward pricing
program, whether it is the Hog
Options Contract or the Fixed Pricing
Program, is to provide producers
with a new risk management tool."
Producers who are on the program
will sign an agreement with Ontario
Pork before participating in the
program. The agreement outlines the
delivery requirements and pricing
process. Once the agreement is
signed, producers can call Ontario
Pork at 1-800-862-9001 to sell hogs
on a forward contract between 10:30
a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on any good
business day. Prices are offered daily
for ten forward months and are
published on the OPPMB website at
http://www.ontariopork.on.ca or by
fax from Ontario Pork. Prices are
also carried on the DTN (Data
Transmission Network).
The program cost is an
administration fee of $20 per contract
plus 75 cents per hog. Basis risk is
the responsibility of the producer.0
