The Rural Voice, 1997-06, Page 27To make the museum's experience more enjoyable and educational, program interpreters, dressed in period costume and using authentic tools and work methods will be on hand to demonstrate and explain their farm chores. The museum has a hands-on approach at most of their exhibits and have geared almost all of the activities to include the whole family. Gaunt hopes that the museum will "We were trying to save the museum for future generations." be able to have the opportunity to work with the Conservation Authority which is located very close to the museum's land. There are many programs that the two could collaborate on and help increase traffic between the two, he said. Gaunt also hopes for new exhibits. While history is nice, said Gaunt, the here and now is also very important. "Visitors should be able to see how agriculture has evolved in the past 100 years," said Gaunt. The museum plans to develop new exhibits with the help of food and agricultural businesses and other organizations. Rick Fortin, the general manager of the museum, also has hopes that the museum will continue to do well under the private organization. He is also sure of an attendance boost this year. "Last year we had 50,000 visitors to the museum. This year we are expecting at least 60,000," said Fortin. With new staff and volunteers working at the museum this year, Underwood says he is very optimistic about what the museum can accomplish. "I'm thrilled with the personnel there," he said. With the beginning of a new season, everybody who was involved in saving the museum is hopeful that it will not be just as good as before, but better.0 1 Stay On Top This Year... ...With a Motorola 2 -Way Radio from...
