when found. The stretch plastics have
minimized this damage, but
monitoring is still important.
Round bale silage will not
improve the quality of forages put
into the plastic. It will help to
minimize losses. Less time for field
drying will reduce the weather
exposure and also reduce leaf losses
at baling, as the material is less likely
to shatter. To improve the quality of
your forages using this method you
need to plan ahead. This will allow
you to be more aggressive in your
cutting schedules, both in earlier
cutting dates and in the amount cut,
as you can bale longer in the day and
under a wider window of weather
conditions. The quality of forages
will thus be improved, not only
within the plastic cover, but also you
will have more time to harvest the
rest of your forages under more
optimum conditions. The first day of
harvest and the speed of harvest
determines your last day. Early
cutting will help with regrowth for
subsequent cuts or for pasture
