Even so, the animals move in and out of the Bennett operation at a rapid pace as they are shipping out 45 to 47 weeks per year and are receiving cattle about 30 weeks per year. That helps to avoid getting caught with all cattle being shipped during a drop in the market. Tn the past couple of weeks, prices for feeder cattle have risen sharply to between 80 and 90 cents a pound from several months at about 70 cents a proud. The Bennetts built during the down time and are ready to capitalize when prices rise. But as Ron says, when the price of the fat cattle rises, so does the cost of yearlings. With the large operation, the Bennetts arc positioned with enough flexibility to ride the sometimes volatile beef market. But Ron says their large operation isn't all that much different than the farmer with 100 acres down the road. "Bennett Farms is a large farm, but it is run by families who just keep working along and doing our job," he said.0 — 42nd BLUE WATER ANGUS SALE — (Oldest Annual Angus Sale in Canada) Saturday, October 19, 1996 1:00 p.m. at Melody Acres, 8 km south of Owen Sound on Hwy. #6 OVER 100 HEAD SELLING MOSTLY PUREBRED, SOME COMMERCIAL 7 herd bull prospects - several excellent show heifer prospects - a Targe selection of bred heifers and young cows bred to industry leading bulls - many good cow calf pairs This is the time, and this is the sale that has the volume, and quality to rebuild your cow herd for the rising cattle market.
