The much too -often -used quotation of Canada's health, environmental and agriculture standards being among the highest of the world, if it ever had any validity, certainly fades in this new age of self-regulation, where profit is the only standard that counts for corporations and their shareholders. Scientists still haven't learned the basic lesson: if you are looking for a cure to a problem then look for the cause first. Don't change the genetics, because Nature has more weapons to fight back than mankind can ever imagine! Just look how bugs, viruses and bacteria can become resistant to chemical poisons while humans suffer! Consumers must have an informed choice, no matter what it takes to come up with a true labelling system. And biotech companies don't have to be afraid to tell the truth - just look around at how many people arc still smoking themselves to death and killing others with the second-hand smoke, despite the dire warnings printed on the cigarette packages!0 S.
