Some veggies may
not have vitamins
as advertised
Anti -meat advocates have
been claiming people can get all
the vitamins they need from
eating vegetables, but a new
study, published in the British
medical journal The Lancet,
says vegetables may not be
enough.
Contrary to popular belief
eating lots of green, leafy
vegetables does not boost
vitamin A levels, the study by
Wageningen Agricultural
University in the Netherlands
says. The findings could have
profound implications on health
promotion campaigns. The
World Health Organization and
UNICEF recommend people in
developing countries eat lots of
green, leafy vegetables — such
as spinach — to combat
rampant vitamin A deficiencies.
People who lack vitamin A are
more likely to get very sick and
even die from ordinary
infections.
"Other food approaches to
overcoming vitamin A
deficiencies, such as eggs,
whole fish and liver, should be
developed further," wrote
Saskia de Pee, leading
investigator on the study. Liver,
eggs and milk contain a form of
vitamin A that seeps into the
blood more easily than that in
vegetables.
The study involved 175
breast-feeding women with low
vitamin A levels in Indonesia.
Every day for 12 weeks,
investigators gave stir -fried
vegetables to a third of the
volunteers; a wafer
supplemented with vitamin A to
another third; and an ordinary
wafer to the rest. They found
increased vitamin A levels in
the blood and breast milk
among the women who ate the
enriched wafers.0

TOP DRY
HOW DOES THE
G. S. I. SYSTEM WORK?
1) Grain is loaded into the upper chamber
of the bin, and dried as a batch
2) When the grain is dry, the burner
automatically shuts off
3) The operator lowers the dump chutes
with a winch, and the grain falls to the
lower part of the bin for cooling/storage
4) The dump chutes are cranked closed
and another batch is loading into the
drying chamber
WHY IS A TOP DRY A BETTER INVESTMENT
THAN A STIRRING MACHINE?
1) LOWER OPERATING COSTS
* Uses much less fuel because it recycles cooling air through
the drying zone
* No gear boxes, motors, or bearings inside the bin
' 100% galvanized construction inside and outside
2) FASTER DRYING
* 2 to 3 times faster per horsepower than a stirring machine
because of lower grain depth (30")
