The Bruce County Pork Producers
presented a brief stating two grave
concerns: (1) the real danger of
pseudo -rabies if there is increased
importation of pork from the U.S.;
and (2) "the U.S.-imposed
countervailing duty on live hogs
continuing to be a major obstacle to
negotiating a formula price for
Ontario pork."
A brief from the Purple Grove
Women's Institute addressed
concerns regarding health care.
There is a "need to re -allocate funds
to provide an acceptable standard of
health care... Staffing at hospitals is
inadequate to the point where current
staff members are experiencing stress
and ill health."

Bill 163: more, and
less, to worry about
If you plan to continue farming in
the current manner you have nothing
to fear from the planning changes
included in Bill 163, but if you'd like
to add a few non -farming elements to
your enterprise, forget it. That was

government officials brought
together in Clinton, April 6 to discuss
the implications of the new bill.

Huron County Health Unit and the
Maitland Valley and Ausable-
Bayfield conservation authorities)
said they would have any
jurisdiction.
In his second scenario he
proposed a small recreational
development at the back of the farm
near the Maitland River and plans
soon came to a grinding halt.
Objections from the Planning
Department came first. Scott Tousaw
said that if only one cabin was
involved, there might be provisions
