I am pleased to announce that my friend and associate, Michael Hunter, who operates the crop consulting
business of Bruce AgVise at RR 4, Ripley, has received his Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) designation through
a program sponsored by the American Registry of Certified Professionals in Agronomy, Crops and Soils
(ARCPACS). CCA candidates must pass two comprehensive exams demonstrating knowledge of plant
nutrient management and crop protection practices. They include a (US) national certification exam and a
state -specific exam.
In addition, designates must demonstrate a broad educational and employment history, provide character
references, and participate in a continuing education program to maintain their certification. The CCA
program is open to anyone who orovides crop management recommendations to farmers. It is meant to
recognize the high level of competence displayed by those who choose to earn this designation. At this
present time, Canada as well as Ontario, do not have a testing or certification procedure for those providing
crop management recommendations to farmers.
I salute Mike for his initiative and success in passing the USA National and State (Michigan) exams.
