Highlights from Board of Directors meeting, October 4/94
... John Gaunt and Joe Gibson
will attend a workshop in Guelph
November 3 on the ecological impact
of the Ontario Weed Act, purpose of
meeting . . . to arrive at
recommendations for any changes
that may be needed.
... 1995 budgct was presented
along with Strategic Plans for '95 for
the Federation ... to be presented at
Annual meeting.
... an OFA member was present
with a problem he had recently
incurred obtaining a rebate of the
eight per cent Ontario Retail Sales
Tax applicable to a recently installed
manure handling/disposal system.
The Federation supports his appeal
because we believe this project is a
manure handling/disposal system
which appears to be eligible for a
rebate of the eight per cent tax, rather
than a building, which is not eligible.
The Federation has since pursued this
matter to the Provincial level, both
with OFA and Paul Klopp.
. . . of this discussion the
following resolution was sent to OFA
for presentation at the Annual
Convention in November, 1994:
"WHEREAS
1) the Province of Ontario levies
an eight per cent Retail Sales Tax
on material purchased to construct
manure storage structures.
2) Farm owners construct these
facilities, in large part, at their
own expense, for the benefit of the
rest of society, insofar as these
structures reduce pollution and/or
enhance environmental conditions
for all residents of Ontario.
