42 THE RURAL VOICE
This represents a milestone for
many people who have been working
hard to make this happen for many
years. Make no mistake, this was not
government -oriented legislation nor
did this take place within the last two
years. This idea came from fanners
in Oxford County many years ago.
I know there are some people who
think there should be a vote. You
have that opportunity every year
when you register and mail in your
cheque. Yes, you can ask for your
money back! Please consider all the
good General Farm Organizations
(GFOs) do, particularly OFA:
agriculture in the classroom; efforts
to negotiate between farmers and
utility corridors; projects for the
environment, such as the Ontario
Environmental Farm plans, Pesticide
safety courses or Oxford County's
battery blitz; the support that the
Perth County Federation and OFA
were able to give to the Boerkamps to
have their land transfer tax cancelled,
and so many more issues that county
federations and the OFA take on. I
encourage all of you to become
involved in whatever way you feel
comfortable in a GFO.
Any organization is only as good
as the people who become involved
and care about their organization and
the work being done by that group.0
