The Rural Voice, 1993-10, Page 39the Iakeshore, from the mammoth resorts like Point Farms Hotel near Goderich where 200 guests could be accommodated at $8-$10 a week room and board, to the smaller hotels like the Walker House in Kincardine. Later people stopped coming to the resorts, deciding instead to build their own cottages and villages like Bayfield and Grand Bend, close to cities like London, led the way. The book is a pleasant read but not satisfactory as a reference work. Orr has a scattergun style that mixes little bits of information rather than taking one topic and developing it. Even though there are separate sections for settlement, early commerce, the fishing industry, etc. little tidbits of information keep jumping from one category to another so that if you try to find something you remember reading, you can look for a long time. Still, it's a pleasant and educational way to learn more about this part of our heritage that few of us remember. — Keith Roulsion Huron — Grand Bend to Southampton by Sandra Orr, published by Boston Mills Press, 132 Main St., Erin ON NOB 1TO L'Ae .ltore and Trinket Shoppe Come view our reasonable priced, handcrafted gifts.
