Plowing Match was provided at
Media Day
From across the province
they came on August
25, hundreds of
reporters, photographers and
TV and radio personalities to
get their first peek at the site
of the 1993 International
Plowing Match at Walkerton,
in Bruce County.
Before the day was out,
they would have notebooks
filled with facts and figures,
and plenty of pictures to show
the readers and viewers.
Host for the day was Jim
Reed, former anchor with
CTV's W5 television show,
now a residcnt of his home
town of Dungannon.Thc IPM,
he said, has become a
crossroads for non -farmers to
interact with the people who
make their food. "The IPM
represents the best our
community has to offer," he
said.
In the sweltering heat the
media, many of the hundreds
of volunteers involved in
planning the match and invited
guests heard members of the
plowing match committees
outline plans for the big show.
John Fennell, general
manager of the Ontario
Plowmen's Association said
the previous few days had been
hectic as 500 exhibitors had
been on the site to inspect their
exhibit areas. There was still a
little exhibit space left at the
site but by opening day all six
streets in the "tented city"
should be full, he said.
Highlights of plans for
various portions of the Match
were given. The new
