The Rural Voice, 1993-09, Page 27also have a cover crop demonstration
to reveal the effects crops such as red
and sweet clover, peas, hairy vetch,
rye grass, rye and oil -seed radish
have on sustaining soil. Farmers will
also get a chance to view how an-
other soil saving device, windbreaks,
look from seedling to 15 -year-old
maturity at a demonstration designed
by the Saugeen Valley Conservation
Authority.
Lastly, Mr. Biermans and his
committee are planning a tillage
profile to show the effects of five
different tillage tools, from
mouldboard plows to sub-soilers, at
the subsoil level. "We need to do all
we can to educate the farmer about
soil management and what better
place to do it than at a plowing
match," says Mr. Biermans.
Another aspect of Machines in
Motion is the woodlot management
demonstration. Committee chair Jim
Snyder is working in conjunction
with the Ontario Association of
Woodlot Operators to demonstrate to
observers how to properly log and
clear woodlots. Again, local dealers
have supplied various machines,
including woodsplitters and saws, to
aid demonstrators. Woodlot
management organizers will be able
to take advantage of a small woodlot
of maple and beech located directly
behind Tented City.
Pastures in Production is yet
another event on the Machines in
Motion agenda. The Bruce County
Cattlemen's Association has taken
charge of this demonstration which
involved testing different pasture
