involved in agriculture also such as

This month there will be a hearing
by the Fair Tax Commission held in
Chesley on May 25 at Chesley
Community Centre. The closing date
for registering group submissions is
April 30, but there is time for
individuals to register and be put on
the agenda. The deadline for setting
the agenda is May 11. Until then,
individuals can apply to be heard by
telephoning 1-800-268-2390.
In Thunder Bay a hearing will be
held May 20 in the St. John
Ambulance Center, with the deadline
for the agenda finalized May 6. In
Barrie, a hearing is scheduled for
June 24 at City Hall, with May 27 as
the deadline for group submissions,
and the deadline for finalizing the
agenda June 10.
Copies of reports, studies, and
particularly the Fair Tax Commission
Discussion Paper are available by
phoning the 1-800 number above.
Information is also available on how
to register to appear at a hearing.
Contact Wayne McCausland (538-
4926) or any member of the local tax
force.
The Fair Tax Commission wants
special interest groups and/or
individual reactions, comments, and
feedback to the issues in the
Discussion Paper just issued in
March 1993. The opportunity is
there to talk directly to the
Commission at the public hearings,
and the FTC is looking for
suggestions and solutions, NOT
complaints.
"There are 13,000 people
registered on the FTC data base,"
says McCausland. "The Discussion
Paper was sent to township councils,
Ontario Federation of Agriculture
groups, Chamber of Commerce
groups, etc." They are really trying
to reach people.
"It's complicated and people tend
to throw up their hands and give up,
but there is an opportunity, a chance
to effect change and to contribute
input."
Get involved. Take a chance.
Stand up and be heard. Take a hand
in shaping the future of agriculture ...
or put up with the consequences.0
