CaII Pete or Bev at 519-233-3218 2 THE RURAL VOICE Feedback Offering advice In most of our daily and weekly new- spapers and most definitely in all of our farm papers, there has been Tots of advice for farmers regarding planting for 1993. Battle lines have been drawn between short -season, one -pass tillage versus no -till, and the value of legume underseeding. With all of this advice, however, one major question has not been addressed. Where is the farmer supposed to get the money for the crop inputs for 1993? Many of our families lost money on last year's crops. Livestock did not do well over the winter due to poor feed quality. Fall tillage wasn't finished while waiting to settle insurance claims and some crops are still standing. Spouses' off -farm jobs are barely making ends meet. With the season fast approaching many farm families would welcome advice on "planning for spring planting with no money". Every day we help farm families survive the rural crisis. Judith Trimble Assistant Co-ordinator Queen's Bush Rural Ministries Funding research I just finished reading Keith Roulston's column on designer eggs (April issue). His comments on the cost of food are appropriate. Another, of course, is breakfast cereal at up to 27 cents per ounce. That makes an egg worth 54 cents each. For interest's sake, designer eggs are the result of research done by Dr. John Simm at the University of Alberta and are a justified attempt to offset cholester- ol concerns. Again, for interest's sake — a good marketing board funds research — the Ontario Egg Marketing Board funded a proportion of the research done by Dr. Simm, hoping to improve egg marketing.0 Tom Graham St. Marys, ON
