The larger ones get a coarser pellet and are fed less often. The feed is high in fat and protein, containing meal and canola oil. A scoop of pellets is thrown on top of the water. Outside, in the raceways, the trout near market weight are self - fed. They can nudge a gadget so that the pellets from a canister drop onto the water. On a trout farm, the • availability and quality of water is a priority. Okygen is pumped into water coming from a 420 foot artesian well. The water from the well is cold, about 48 degrees Fahrenheit summer and winter. The water from the holding tanks and raceways is distributed into ponds beside the creek. Water quality must be checked continually for levels of oxygen. Since there is hydrogen sulphide in the water, it must be taken out and Water quality essential for fish farming oxygen put in. There is a generator if the hydro goes out so that oxygen can continue to be pumped into the water. The pressure from the well is sufficient to force the water through columns.
