HEART Committee Public Information Meeting January 26,1993, CHSS, 8:00 p.m. President Bill Wallace of the HCFA opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. He began by introducing the panel members who were Bonnie Johnson from Rural Connections and from the HEART committee; Daryl Be An Achiever Join OFA Membership March March 1-12 Ball from Farm Credit talking on operating loans; Brenda McIntosh on Farm Debt Review; and Brian Hughes, General Manager of the Agriculture Commodity Corporation group. Bill mentioned that John VanBeers of the HCFA was the initiator of the HEART committee. The committee held its first meeting between Christmas and New Years. Kent, Lambton and Brant counties had applied through OMAF for short term emergency monies for needy farm Profile Heinze, of Howick Township, has been a Regional Director from HCFA to the OFA for the region of Huron Northeast (Morris, Grey, Howick and Turnberry) for the last three years. Heinze and his wife Henrietta farm along with their three children, ages 11, 13 and 17 at R.R.1, Fordwich. They have 150 acres, cash crop and dairy herd. For 14 years Heinze has been involved in the Huron Federation of Agriculture, being President of Howick for the last 10 years, and is on the Wellington North Christian Farm Federation Executive Board. He has been a Youth Elder and Cadet leader in the Christian Reformed Church, on the OFA Properties Committee, the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, the OFA Land Stewardship Project Approval group, and is presently on the HCFA 56 THE RURAL VOICE families for immediate needs such as food and fuel. There are also plans to be made for such families for upcoming crop needs (operating capital). The Farm Debt Review Board is available for such cases as well as the HEART committee for counselling and shoulder to lean on. As a non-profit organization, Ontario has a board with a chairman and general manager, 10 board members, and 60 contractors. There is a three- member panel assigned to each case. Elliott Laurie from "Line in the Dirt" group announced a Farm Rally being held in Lucknow on February 4 to focus on the "Crisis in Agriculture".
