Weather back to normal February 6, 1993 After two weeks of balmy spring weather, we're back to normal winter temperatures. One good thing about February, spring is just around the bend. Calving is going well for the Beef Farmers in the district and a number of twins have been reported. Few people ever get the chance to feel new life within their hands or to hear the tender murmur of the cow as she cleans her newborn calf. Farming — you just can't compare it! The Rainy River Federation of Agriculture held their February 4 meeting at the OMAF office in Emo with a very small attendance. I was just thinking back; nominating committees are wonderful, they get the person to let their name stand, but I think they failed to let them know they also had meetings to attend as well. President Rick Boersma chaired the meeting with directors Linda Armstrong, Wayne Flatt, Shirley Morrish, Sue Boersma, and Kim Hunsperger attending. Because of the small attendance, decisions could not be finalized; therefore, discussion centered around the upcoming Valentine's Day Potluck Dinner and Skating Party at Barwick. Everything is planned and we're all taking that day to socialize and relax with friends and neighbours. The Rainy River Charolais Breeders held their annual meeting and elected Terry Mann as president; Delbert Redford, vice-president; Donna Niskala is the secretary/treasurer; food chairman, Linda Armstrong. More about their famous BBQ, a yearly event, will be in a later newsletter. The Rainy River Bull Test Station will be holding their annual Open House on Saturday March 13, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the test station four miles south of Emo, one and a half miles east. The Bull and Heifer Sale will be on Saturday, April 3 at the Stratton Sales Barn, 1:00 p.m. For further information, contact Ken Fisher, manager, Box 66, Emo, ON POW 1CO, 807-482-2747.
