Though the cold and snow of January sometimes
make it hard to think of the summer ahead, planting
for the spring crop at the indoor farm of Bruce
Tropical Produce in Tiverton has already been done.
Here workers space out the seedlings to give them
more room to grow. Before Christmas, the tomatoes
were in place to produce the crop that will hit peak
production in May.

THE MAGAZINE OF THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY
The last decade, for that
matter the last five decades,
have seen a decline in rural
economies as mechanization
and poor prices have reduced
the economic impact of
agriculture on the local com-
munities, leaving farm homes
abandoned and stunting the
development of towns and
villages. Are there ways to turn
the trend around? A group of
academics and planners met
recently in Goderich to explore
alternatives.
