or $6 for individual sessions.
The remainder of the money made
available through OMAF is targeted
for counselling through Stratford
Family Counselling. Anyone seeking

Neighbours Being Neighbours is
also trying to find funding to bring
John McKnight, Professor of
Community Studies at Northwestern
University in Chicago to a spring
session to talk about helping
communities to organize to take
responsibility for their own health
and safety.
Huron's Rural Connections
program is the newest of the efforts
to reach out to help alleviate stress on
the farm. Although there has been a
level of stress on Huron's farms for
some years, Bonnie Johnson feels it
may have taken longer for some of
the stress problems to hit her county
in a big way because some people
were living on "old money", capital
accumulated in better times past, to
help get them through until now. That
money has been used up and people
are on the edge, she says.
The Huron chapter of CMHA put
in a request for funding for a two-
year program from OMAF earlier this
year. Johnson joined the staff at the
Clinton office in mid-May and has
been busy going around talking to
farm groups learning what they feel is
needed. She has been talking to
agencies that see farm stress first
hand, from financial consultants to
Farm Credit Corporation to the Farm
Debt Review Board.
A Huron County Farm Resource
Directory is nearing completion and
will be distributed this fall. Johnson
is also speaking to professionals who
deal with farmers in a variety of
capacities and to the public in general
to increase awareness of the problems
farm families are encountering.
Rural Connections, she says, can
be a resource for farm families to find
out where to get help. Johnson feels
that farm families helping farm
families is the best way to help
people deal with their problems.
She's hoping to help set up peer
