At the start of the Huron Federa-
tion Newsletter in the June issue of The
Rural Voice a story was told of a lady
who was on a pension and was fearful
that she will have to pay $150 a year.
She is told she doesn't have a thing to
worry about as her family is on a small
acreage with limited income.
Let me tell you another true story
of a lady who is co-owner with her
husband of a farm in Huron. She took
care of an aging parent (no old folks
home). She took good care of her chil-
dren and grandchildren (no day care
centre). Also was good to her husband
for over 40 years. She applied for her
Canada Pension Plan a year ago, they
now give her $25.09 a month for being
such a fine lady. Apparently she did
everything wrong. She should have
looked after somebody else's parents,
children, and grandchildren, and left
her husband and she would have re-
ceived a real good pension. If the GFO
law goes through and she pays the bill
it would take six months of her pension
to pay this Registration Fee. This story
probably doesn't sound true but it is.
For May, June, and July we are
disposing of two-thirds of our Milk
Production (no market) so they say.
Some time ago I received a letter from
our Bishop: could we send money to a
hunger fund to send milk to starving
children of the world. I didn't write
back, I just couldn't figure out how to
explain it all. But we do support the
Christian Blind Mission and our yearly
givings apparently pay for five
operations so five blind children can
see again. This is most rewarding to
our hearts. Also for 14 years we have
sponsored a child in the Philippines.
She is now going to be a nurse. Life
has been so rewarding to us, it is nice
to have the chance to share.
I better stop somewhere I am
running on and on, so will close with
one of Mason Bailey's quotes, (by the
way Mason is a good friend of mine
and got me in OFA in the first place)
— "If Ontario had all the laws 100
years ago that it has now, this province
would be a wilderness." Thanks
Mason. Oh how true, just ask some-
