The Rural Voice, 1992-03, Page 17material (DNA) of an organism can
be used to identify it in any sample.
The tiny fragment or probe is applied
to the test sample and it is able to say
if the organism is or is not present.
Many DNA probes are in use around
the world but they are still mostly in
research labs awaiting adaptations
that will make them less complicated
and more "user friendly". The DNA
fingerprinting often heard of in the
news has some similarities to DNA
probe technology. This is certainly
the wave of the future; we will be
hearing more about it and its many
variations over the next few years.
