DEERE UNVEILS
NEW CUTTER
John Deere has introduced its new
717 general purpose rotary cutter, which
has a seven -foot cutting width and sev-
eral design features that contribute to
long-term durability and ease of mainte-
nance.
The 717's boxed -section hitch sup-
ports are welded to the external frame of
the cutter for strength and durability.
The unibody, full -frame deck construc-
tion with continuous welds provides
strength and minimizes trash buildup.
Flanges on the bottom of the side and
rear skirts help prevent the skirts from
bending when manoeuvering in brush.
Extra -long, replaceable wear shoes pro-
vide added life and strength. The five -
inch laminated tire delivers better flota-
tion than four -inch designs for a more
uniform cut.
A shielded access hole on. the top of
the deck enables the operator to service
or replace the blades without crawling
under the machine. A four -plate slip
clutch, which directs power from the
category IV driveline to the 80 -hp gear
case, is preset at the factory and is self-
adjusting. The driveline is fully
shielded for operator safety. Front rub-
ber and rear solid safety shields are
standard on the 717. Front and rear
chain shielding is available. The 717
develops a blade tip speed at rated rpm
of 165 mph and can cut brush two inches
in diameter. The cutter is designed for
tractors with at least 50 pto horsepower.
