HCFA MEETING
Thursday, January 10, 1991,
Brucefield Public School
President Brenda McIntosh wel-
comed everyone to the meeting.
Three items of correspondence were
read as follows:
1. A letter was received from Agri-
culture Altematives, a student group
from Guelph Agricultural College in-
forming us of a one -day seminar to
demonstrate concerns about agricul-
ture's imperative to preserve a clean
environment. The theme this year is
"linking farmer and consumer: towards
a healthier environment." They are
asking for a $75 donation towards the
seminar. The request was declined.
Sheets were left out for anyone to regis-
ter if interested.
2. A letter from Jaycees of Canada
wanted nominations for a farmers'
award from our county for outstanding
progress in agriculture practices. Infor-
mation was left out for anyone to look
over, and if interested in nominating a
farmer from the area, the appropriate
sheets must be completed through the
county office.
3. A letter was read from Allan
Gardiner, president of Lennox/Adding-
ton Federation of Agriculture request-
ing our support in the form of a letter to
our provincial member on the ongoing
situation of the Hay Bay Farms problem
on the R.O.P. testing for hogs. This
particular farm has lost over $240,000.
Motion by Larry Plaetzer, seconded by
Steve Thompson to write to Paul Klopp
making him aware that we have re-
ceived his letter, dealt with it, and would
be interested to know if he is aware of it
and does he know the other side of the
story.
Minutes of the last meeting were
passed as printed in The Rural Voice on
a motion by Bob Down, seconded by
Ken Scott. Carried.
President Brenda introduced Lionel
DeBrun, Clinton Area Manager of On-
tario Hydro for the past four years, who
showed slides and spoke on the future of
the next 20 years in Ontario Hydro. It
takes approximately 15 years for a nu-
clear plant to be completely erected and
into the working process of actually pro-
ducing power.
DeBrun and his assistant had light
bulbs with them that have a 15 -year
guarantee and use much less energy.
However, there has been so much de-
mand for them, that the supply has run
out in Ontario and the production of
them is at least two weeks behind. There
is no use installing one of these bulbs in
your home or barn. You have to change
all your bulbs to be economical.
DeBrun answered many interesting
questions from the members. He was
thanked for his time and presentation by
Bob Down.
New Committees
The new committees for 1991 then
met in individual groups for 15 minutes
to discuss their plans and ideas for the
new year. Everyone then reconvened to
hear the report of each group as follows:

to put up OFA gate signs in Colborne,
