County Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER
O.A.T.I. - WHAT AND WHO IS IT?
The Ontario Agricultural Training
Institute was established in 1989 by the
Ontario Federation of Agriculture, in
co-operation with others who have an
interest in the Ontario agricultural in-
dustry. Both federal and provincial
governments, together with several
farm organizations and agri-businesses
have been instrumental since OATI's
inception.
OATI has the motto "farmers man-
aging change," a most apt description of
the challenge of meeting the needs of the
modem farmer in today's ever changing
environment.
OATI has achieved wonderful suc-
cess in 1990, thanks largely to the inter-
est and commitment of many people in
the Ontario agricultural industry. OATI
has offered some 126 courses in 37
countries with some 1,293 farmers and
industry -related people participating in
13 courses.
Participation is the key to OATI's
success. All who enrol in one or more of
the courses will find an innovative and
exciting atmosphere in which they are
invited and encouraged to participate. It
is the delivery of information in a hands-
on -manner, encouraging the partici-
pants to discuss and learn from each
other as well as the instructor.
The idea started in Britain some 23
years ago with the British Agricultural
Training Board, and the techniques used
have been developed over this time.
Now they are available to the farm-
ers of Ontario and to those in Bruce
County. Courses will be held in south -
em and northern Bruce County pro-
vided there are enough people interested
for a course. The Bruce County Federa-
tion of Agriculture encourages all those
who wish to find out more, to contact our
office in Hanover.
Courses in GST are scheduled for
Bruce County, subject to interest. Each
course can take a maximum of 16 people
with pre -registration essential. If any-
one is interested in GST courses or any
other subject, please call the OFA office
