meat sector since the U.S. is Canada's
major export market. Combined with
moderate input costs caused by lower
feed prices, prospects look bright, par-
ticularly for the beef industry. Every
cent the Canadian dollar drops against
the U.S. dollar means a $l per cwt.
improvement in beef prices, while every
one per cent drop in the interest rate

lower quota prices,” says Scotiabank.0
SHUR-GAIN: NEW
RESEARCH FARM
Shur -Gain Division of Canada Pack-
ers Inc. has consolidated its research and
nutritional activities under one man-
ager, Dr. Essi Evans, it was announced
by vice president Murray Ovens.
Construction of a new 800 -acre re-
search farm, to begin soon in Brant
County and scheduled for completion
by August of 1991, shows the com-
pany's commitment to research has
never been stronger, says Ovens.
"Over the past several years, Shur -
Gain's research, nutritional and mark-
eting activities have been moving to-
wards a species specific philosophy"
says Ovens, reflecting the increasing
specialization of Canadian Agriculture.
