NEW AG MINISTER VISITS THREE COUNTIES
Ontario's new Minister of Agriculture and Food, Elmer Buchanan, recently madea
whirl -wind tour through mid -western Ontario. His first stop in the morning was in
Perth County where he met with members of the Perth County Federation of
Agriculture. Accompanied by his wife, and executive assistant Tony McQuail, the
tour continued in the afternoon when he listened to the concerns of farm groups in
Huron County, sponsored by the Huron Federation of Agriculture. In the evening,
he was guest speaker at the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture's annual meeting
and 50th anniversary celebrations, following which he met with Bruce farm groups.
From farm child care, to farm finance, to land use problems, to low commodity prices,
to name just a few, Buchanan was fully apprised on issues in the heart of Ontario's
food producing counties.
120 HEAR OF FARM ENERGY SAVINGS
Ontario Hydro's Agriculture Energy seminar, held recently in Chesley, was well
attended, attracting about 120 farmers to the day -long session. Co -hosted by
Walkerton/Owen Sound area offices, producers learned how to handle electricity
safely on the farm, as well as how to conserve energy through use of high -efficient
lighting and energy efficient barn equipment. (photo by Eloise Calhoun)
